Building Futures for Children

The Tiarnan Humanitarian Association (THA) has worked tirelessly to transform lives, offering care and opportunity to the most vulnerable. Whether it's providing a safe haven for abandoned children at the Happy Home Children’s Centre (HHCC) in Cambodia or celebrating the successful handover of hospice operations in Thailand to the government, the THA embodies compassion in action. This mission reflects not only hope but also an urgent call for ongoing support to sustain these life-changing programs.
Founded in Battambang, Cambodia, in 2007 by the Float Foundation, HHCC was envisioned as a refuge for children who had been deserted, neglected, abused, or exploited. The initial efforts were spearheaded by the Minerva Club of Amsterdam and supported by the Rotary Clubs of Bangkok South and South Surrey. These organizations helped transform a fledgling sanctuary into a vital institution by upgrading water, electricity, and sanitation systems, and rebuilding dormitories. Yet, the need remains immense. HHCC continues to serve 35 children, providing education, nourishment, and care, all with just one full-time and 2 part-time dedicated staff members.
1. Structural Integrity: Strengthening buildings against harsh weather conditions to ensure long-term safety.
2. Education and Training: Expanding vocational programs to prepare children for sustainable careers.
3. Health and Hygiene: Upgrading facilities to modern standards to safeguard children’s well-being.
4. Day-to-Day Operations: Supporting staff salaries, food supplies, and basic necessities.

In March of 2025, the Rotary Club of South Surrey, through the efforts of Rotarians Brian, Doug, and Chip, has completed several important renovation projects at the Children’s Happy Home in Battambang, Cambodia. Their six-week stay resulted in a complete overhaul of the water system, installation of new concrete floors, repairs to sewer lines, and the addition of new gates, fences, and curtains. They also built clothes closets for the children and made numerous other improvements, with the children actively involved in some tasks. These projects were made possible through generous donations, a Rotary District grant, and the dedication of the Rotarians. The children showed great appreciation for the work done and expressed their gratitude. Brian highlighted the exceptional care provided by Chanthou, the orphanage’s manager, who lovingly oversees the children’s well-being and education. The children are now on a path to a better future with continued support.
